What can we expect in the sequel?Īs the teaser trailer implies, Alan Wake 2 is diving further into horror after the first game focused more on action. After Remedy became a public company in 2017 and bought those rights from Microsoft, however, fans became hopeful that the sequel would finally step into the light. Plus, Microsoft was more interested in greenlighting the company’s other projects, like Quantum Break.

Thanks to Microsoft owning the publishing rights, Remedy wasn’t able to get full creative control over the sequel. However, Alan Wake 2 never got off the ground past this demo. Remedy would recycle many of these features for the spin-off Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. The demo showed off the moods and atmospheres Remedy hoped to highlight in the sequel, as well as some gameplay improvements. In 2015, Polygon released a 13-minute gameplay reel of an internal prototype demo created by Remedy shortly after Alan Wake released.
